i am thinking also about getting a shocktech ion ssc polished red body kit . I know that it has the bolt out the back design which is nice because i have the original body kit which does not have bolt out the back so i was wondering if it was worth it.

It's kinda pricey (unless it's on sale), although it looks nice. I'd rather get an Ion XE body kit though, as the Shocktech's BOB body (Bolt Out Back) is considered "semi-BOB" - you still have to remove the rear frame screw to get to the bolt. With the XE body, there's an actual bolt guide that unscrews out the rear - much easier and it's cheaper.

The Dude is pretty biased for some reason so let me clear up his misguided comments. Sure, it's no high end gun, but it doesn't COST as much as one so i don't expect it to be.

- The Ion's stock reg is actually really good. It's equal if not better than CP regs.
- The stock board may not have any tourney modes but that's only an issue if you're entering particular tourneys, like PSP or Millenium. It is just fine for recball and even NPPL (the NPPL may be dead but plenty of tourney circuits have adopted their rules).
- The stock eyes are fine. In fact, aftermarket eyes are not any better because they're not any different. Virtue eyes, for example, only add one thing, and that's color diodes so there's a visible beam. It's just for looks. It's like adding food coloring to water and saying it's better water.
- Agreed on the stock asa. It's a plain duckbill, which sucks.
- Stock Ion bolt is actually a really good bolt. It took a long time for companies to improve it because their bolts kept snapping in half, trying to reduce the weight. Even now, the aftermarket bolts available aren't worth the cost. They're main advantage is better efficiency, but that only translates into a few balls, not even an extra pod. If you really want to increase efficiency, get a QEV - cheaper than a bolt & has the same effect.
- Trigger is preference. Personally, the side-to-side slop bothered me, but it doesn't bother everybody.
- Agreed on the feedneck. It's too tall and clamping is better.
- Barrel isn't that bad. It's accurate enough, just not the standard speedball length and doesn't clear breaks well, although i normally don't break paint with my Ion (last time i used it, it did break a lot of paint, but only because the paint couldn't handle the 30-40° cold & rain).
