What is a good paintball gun for someone new to the sport?

I'm looking at getting into paintball. I have gone before, and only ever used a Tippman '98 custom. One that I'm looking at is the Spyder VS1 or VS2, but I'm open to any suggestions. I would also like to know what the electronics do on the VS series (is that for the lighted internals?), and what hopper and CO2/HPA tank would be good for whatever marker you suggest.

David D is pretty vague with answers so I'll try to help you out.

If you are playing woodsball, your best choices are the 98 Custom and A-5. The A-5 is fast shooting stock because of the cyclone feed. You can also use an A-5 for speedball with an e-grip or response trigger. The 98C is probably the best marker you can get for woodsball in terms of durability and the performance and price are great as well.

For speedball the VS1/VS2 is ok. Many people say that the feedneck is junk and you should buy a clamping one. Also some people say that the stock regulator has a slow recharge rate. The electronics are for the board that allows electronic control of the RoF (rate of fire) and the eyes (sensors so you don't chop balls). Other good entry level speedball markers are the Smart Parts Vibe (basically an Ion designed for CO2 with lower RoF cap) and Ion, or Proto SLG.

An Empire Reloader B would work fine for speedball. Also Ricochet hoppers are good. Any CO2 tanks work fine for the 98C and A-5 but don't get a CO2 for speedball unless its anti-siphon.
